Apple and Meta platforms allegedly face minor fines for allegedly violating landmark rules with the aim of re -running their power, people with direct knowledge of the case said on Monday.

The two companies are in the Crosshare of the European Commission since last year for the possible violations of the Digital Markets Act, which can spend 10 percent of their global annual sales to companies.

The Act, which had enacted a law in May 2023, wants to make it easier for people to move forward among online services such as social media platforms, internet browser and app stores, allowing small companies to compete with large technology.

Sources said that the European Union’s antitrust enformers focus on ensuring that companies comply with the law rather than approval, sources said, explaining the argument for a minor fine.

Other causes are short periods of alleged violations – DMA came into force in 2023 – and geo -political climate, he said.

In a memorandum last month, US President Donald Trump threatened to impose tariffs against countries imposing fines on American companies. The European Union has refused to take the US tech giants.

Sources said that a final decision on the size of the fine has not yet been taken, and the situation may still change. A decision is expected this month, Teresa Ribera, head of the European Union Antitust, told Reuters in February.

The Commission refused to comment.

In a compliance report published last week, Meta said that despite its concrete efforts to follow the rules of the European Union, it continued to receive demands from regulators that go beyond the law written in the law.

Apple’s DMA compliance report on March 7 reiterated its argument that changes made by law bring maximum risk to users and developers, including new avenues for malware.Fraud and scam.
