Aparshakti Khurana: Jubilee helped me break out of ‘hero’s friend’ roles
Actor Aparshakti Khurana spoke to us about his acting choices, ‘Jubilee 2’ and more in an exclusive conversation.

It is sad but a well-known fact that actors often get easily stereotyped into certain characters. Actor Aparshakti Khurana faced something similar when he was cast by makers as the protagonist’s friend in films like Badrinath Ki Dulhania, Stree, Luka Chuppi and Pati Patni Aur Woh. However, the actor spoke to India Today about how things changed for him after his debut web series Jubilee. Vikramaditya Motwane’s show not only won him critical acclaim but also expanded opportunities for him.
Talking about if he had to fight the ‘hero’s friend’ image to get better roles, the actor shared, “It’s not like that after Jubilee, at least in the fraternity. People don’t come to me for those roles anymore. However, even if it hadn’t happened, I don’t think as an artiste you should be bothered about it. What’s important is that you keep working with the right kind of people.”
The actor said, “I am very grateful for this, because I have had a long and difficult journey. If everyone starts playing the hero, then who will play the rest of the roles? A film is a mix of many characters. Honestly, I have no problem with it. Even when I don’t get such roles, I never feel ashamed to play them. In real life, I am friends with many people, so why can’t I play such a character on screen too?”
When asked about Jubilee 2, Aparshakti Khurana said, “It is being written, so Vikramaditya (Motwane) would be the right person to talk about it. However, things are being worked on and you will get an update soon.”
Jubilee is a multi-starrer web show on Prime Video. It is based on the film industry of the 50s and also stars Prosenjit Chatterjee, Siddhant Gupta, Aditi Rao Hydari, Vamika Gabbi and Ram Kapoor.
Aparshakti Khurana was last seen in Stree 2.
