Our mobile numbers have become rapidly a primary form of digital identity, which are associated with our banking, government IDs and a crowd of digital services. This close relationship for essential financial and important services has unfortunately made a major goal for scammers to exploit the SIM card for malicious purposes. Scammers are actively releasing unauthorized mobile numbers using theft identity, while many people are unaware that these fraud connections may be present in their name.
To compete with these increasing threats, the Government of India has introduced the Sanchher Sathi platform. Developed by the Center for Development of Telematics (C-Dot), this digital initiative is designed to protect mobile identity and fraud related to telecom. Provides many valuable services including platforms:
– Report and block lost or stolen phones
– Track the equipment using IMEI numbers
– Check all mobile numbers issued in their names
– Report fake or spam calls and messages
– Verify the authenticity of mobile handset
According to Telecom Minister Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, till date the forum has successfully blocked more than 33.5 lakh fraud or lost phones and has detected more than 2 million stolen equipment. About 4.64 lakhs of these recovered phones have been returned to their correct owners.
Meanwhile, the government is actively urging the citizens to verify whether their identity is being used to obtain fraudulent mobile connections. Users can check the total number of SIM card connections on their names on the frontier Sathi platform.
How to check the number of SIM cards issued in your name
To check any unauthorized connections, follow these simple steps:
- Go to Sanchrasathi. Gov.IN to the Sanchher Sathi portal.
- Navigate on the ‘Citizen’s Central Services’ section and click on ‘Know your mobile connection’.
- Enter your 10-inxic mobile number and captcha code.
- You will get a one -time password (OTP) on your mobile number. Enter OTP to log in.
- The portal will display a list of all mobile numbers registered with your identity documents (eg Aadhaar).
What to do if you have an unfamiliar SIM card under your name?
If the list includes numbers you do not recognize. Do not panic Follow these straps to unlink the number.
- Select suspected numbers.
- Choose “not my number” when indicated.
- Confirm and submit your selection.
- A request ID will be generated – save it for tracking purposes.
These numbers will then be sent by telecom service provider for re -verification. If found unauthorized, the connection will be deactivated, allowing your identity to protect with potential misuse.
