Director Anurag Kashyap penned a long note reviewing Jaideep Ahlawat’s recently released show, Paatal Lok Season 2. He shared a series of Paatal Lok Season 2 and started his review by quoting the famous South Korean filmmaker from his award-winning acceptance speech for Parasite. Said, “Once you get past the inch-tall barrier of subtitles, you will be introduced to many more wonderful films.”
Anurag Kashyap further admitted that while he was proud of Sacred Games, a “powerful, bleak” history of his lower depths was revealed with Paatal Lok, created by Sudeep Sharma and Avinash Arundhare. According to him, it was a pinnacle of writing, direction and performances that could not be beaten. However, he added, “2025 started off with a bang with Black Warrant and the bar was already high,” he said, noting the release of Paatal Lok Season 2 that followed.
The filmmaker revealed that his daily routine has changed and he goes to sleep early. He said he couldn’t sleep and watched the first episode of the new season. “The opening scene of Jonathan Thom’s body being found took away my remaining sleep and I was swept into the world of Hathi Ram Chaudhary as fast as it were sand. The depths of human darkness in which he lives are always in search of There is some hope, he may or may not come,” he added.
To keep an eye
Kashyap said that the series is a thriller, mystery and based on an area that everyone knows about but does not pay attention to. He commended the poignant writing for not holding back from blows and acting as a mirror to “the hypocrisy that exists collectively within us as a society”.
The filmmaker urged viewers to watch the series with subtitles for its authenticity, creative courage and acting talent. He admitted, “And the ending suddenly kind of shows you the light, it broke me because I wanted it to but I didn’t see it happening.”
The Maharaj actor continued his review in the comments section to make a special mention of the star cast. “As far as Jaideep Ahlawat is concerned. For me this is not his best performance till date. I would say the best performance of any actor I have seen here in 2020. He is not acting, he is the incarnation of Hathiram Choudhary. This “It’s a masterclass in acting,” he wrote, “I’m amazed.”
At the closing ceremony, he congratulated the entire team and the brilliant performance of Ishwak Singh and Tillotama Shome.
