The disturbed visit of AI Startup Windsurf has taken another sharp turn after the recent acquisition by Cognition Labs. In less than a month after the announcement of the deal, Cognition has closed 30 former Windsurf employees and asked 200 others to either buy a purchase or brace for a demanding work culture. The proposal, as reported by information, includes nine months’ salary and is valid till August 10. However, employees who choose to stay are expected to adopt the schedule of six-day office week and 80-hour weeks.

CEO of Cognition Scott Wu clarified the employees in an internal communication. Wu said, “We do not believe in work-life balance-building the future of software engineering is a mission that we all carefully care about that we can probably not separate the two,” Wu said. “We know that every person who joined the Windsurf signed up to join the cognition, where we spend 6 days in the office and make a watch in 80+ hours of week.”

While Anubhuti initially praised the Windsurf team as a “world class” during the acquisition, recent events have shown that not all employees will remain on the ship. The company allegedly confirmed that there was no additional trimming plan for now.

Windsurf, earlier known as codium, was in the headlines due to its unstable ownership path in recent months. In June, reports suggested that the Openai was acquiring the company, leading some contestants to pull from their model windsurf. But the deal eventually collapsed, allegedly raised by Microsoft, the largest investor of OpenaiI.

In July, Google entered the $ 2.4 billion deal, gaining licensing rights for Windsurf’s technology. Several Windsurf engineers and its co-founder moved to Google. The remaining 250 either employees were later acquired by Cognition Labs, stating that they would be financially benefited from the transaction.

However, within a few weeks in the infection, the senses appear to be shaped again with aggressive policies. The situation compared Elon Musk’s post-acquisition strategy to Twitter (now X), where he made the number of employees famous and implemented the expectations of extreme work.

Windsurf employees who live in feeling, are allegedly being paid for four years, which are worth unpublished equity, although the value of that payment has not been disclosed.

The Windsurf earlier was seen as a strategic boost for cognizance, with a $ 4 billion AI coding startup, with its acquisition to a $ 82 million in the annual recurring revenue. But recent steps raise questions about whether a standalone product will remain under the leadership of the Windsurf cognition, or whether it will only be absorbed in a broad, high pressure operations.
