Anil Ravipudi reacts to Thalapathy Vijay’s Jana Nayagan being rumored as an NBK-starrer remake: ‘We will know only after this…’

Thalapathy Vijay has recently confirmed that Jana Nayagan will be his last cinematic venture in Tamil cinema. The film is scheduled to release on January 9, 2026, on the occasion of Pongal next year. While fans are accepting the news with sweet acceptance, many are wondering if the film is a remake of Nandamuri Balakrishna’s Bhagwant Kesari.

Now, director Anil Ravipudi of the NBK-starrer has provided some clarity on the matter.

Bhagwant Kesari director Anil Ravipudi reacts to remake rumors involving Jan Nayakan

While speaking to the media, director Anil Ravipudi was asked if Thalapathy Vijay’s Jana Nayakan is a remake of his film Bhagwant Kesari. In response, the director said, “Vijay sir is a true gentleman. We will know only after its release whether I have any role in his farewell film or not. Till then, let’s treat it as Thalapathy Vijay’s film.”

The director also recalled meeting the GOAT actor during Warisu’s time, highlighting the superstar’s warm personality.

Interestingly, during the audio launch event held in Malaysia earlier this week, Jana Nayagan director H. Vinoth had also addressed the remake speculations. The filmmaker said, “Some people are saying that Jana Nayagan is a remake or a partial remake. Let me make it very clear, this is 100% a Thalapathy film, a complete commercial presentation in theaters that everyone will enjoy.”

More about Jan Nayakan

Jana Nayagan is a political action drama starring Thalapathy Vijay in the lead role. Along with Pooja Hegde and Bobby Deol in co-lead roles, the film also stars Mamita Baiju, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Priyamani, Narayan and many others in important roles.

According to recent reports, the film explores an ideological clash between two individuals who have faced each other in the past. When a child’s silent fear reopens the hero’s old wounds, the former police officer is forced to fight a battle far greater than personal vengeance.

Speculation also suggests that the film may have elements of humans versus AI, and that the runtime may exceed three hours. However, no official confirmation has been made yet.

Recently, the makers revealed that the first show of the film in Kerala will start at 6 am. The official update was shared by the distribution company.
