While we are all excited to see Andrew Garfield work with Florence Pugh in We Live in Time, the former actor recently opened up about how the film has a personal touch to it, and talked about the experiences we’ve all had in the past.
Speaking following the world premiere of We Love in Time during the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival, the Silence actor referenced director John Crowley and explained how the film is a collection of experiences “that happen in a person’s life — personal experiences, personal loss, personal love.”
He called himself and the entire team of the film “lucky” as they were able to incorporate their personal and private side into the story. The Under the Silver Lake star further added that the move has been a healing one for the actors and the team of We Live in Time, while hoping it will work for the audience as well.
Speaking about the timing of filming, Garfield said the story had a strong foundation, “and in terms of preparing the specifics, it seems like that was being referenced even earlier by Florence.”
He said that the story of the film is such that the actors do not want to know what they will do next.
During a conversation after the screening on September 6, 2024, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 actor shed light on his experience working with Florence Pugh.
He said working with the Fighting with My Family actress was a rare experience because with Pugh, an actor just pays attention to her and easily gets in sync with her, listens to her, and at the same time, you believe the scene will turn out to be the most honest and original.
Reflecting on herself, The Social Network star said the whole experience was about surrender and letting go of everything.
We Live in Time is a film starring Florence Pugh and Andrew Garfield as Tobias and Almut, respectively.
They are shown as a couple who meet by chance and soon fall in love. But that’s not the whole story; the two are then shown supporting each other and standing by each other during several tragedies, while eventually starting a family.
The film marks Andrew Garfield’s first feature film since 2021. He previously starred in the box office smash Marvel Studios’ Spider-Man: No Way Home alongside Tobey Maguire and Tom Holland, all of whom reprised their beloved Spider-Man roles from their respective projects.
Similarly, Garfield also starred in Tick, Tick…Boom!, in which he played the late musician Jonathan Larson.
We Live in Time will hit the screens on October 11, 2024.
