Every move or statement by actors in showbiz invites opinion, but few actors dare to speak out despite all odds. One of them was late actor Rishi Kapoor. Recently, Ananth Mahadevan recalled the incident when the veteran actor once got angry when his son Ranbir ignored his warning against a film. Furthermore, the filmmaker pointed out how Kapoor never shied away from sharing his honest opinions.
In a new interview with Siddharth Kannan, actor-filmmaker Ananth Mahadevan revealed some interesting anecdotes about Rishi Kapoor. Mahadevan, who shared screen space with Kapoor in their 1989 hit film Chandni, praised his unfiltered personality and called him an honest person.
To illustrate this, he narrated an old incident involving the late actor and his son Ranbir Kapoor. He said that he once went to the Kapoor & Sons actor’s house when Rishi was angry because he had warned Ranbir against doing the film, yet he did so.
Mahadevan said, “I don’t want to name the filmmaker or the film, but Rishi Kapoor was angry. He kept saying that he tried his best to stop Ranbir from doing that film. I told him, ‘Don’t do that, Don. ‘Don’t do this, this film will not work.’ But he didn’t listen.”
Apart from this, he also told that Kapoor did not put any filter in his words and always shared his honest views about films. “He used to tell directors to their faces, ‘It’s a flop man, your film is a flop, there’s no use, don’t do it,'” the filmmaker said.
For those unaware, Rishi Kapoor debuted in 1973 with Bobby co-starring Dimple Kapadia. Her notable performances include Amar Akbar Anthony, Sargam, Naseeb, Prem Rog, Chandni, Mehndi, Deewana, Namastey London and Love Aaj Kal. The actor died on 30 April 2020 after a prolonged illness.
