Vicky Kaushal, Tripati Dimri and Amy Virk starrer Bad Newz released in theatres earlier this year in July. Directed by Anand Tiwari, the film garnered a lot of attention due to its chartbuster songs like Tauba Tauba and Mere Mehboob Mere Sanam. Nevertheless, the film did not do well in terms of numbers at the box office. Reacting to this, the director mentioned that he did not expect only numbers.

Recently, during an interaction with India Today, Bad Newz director Anand Tiwari was asked about the under-performance of the Vicky Kaushal, Tripati Dimri and Amy Virk starrer. In response, the director said, “I never expected any numbers. I don’t have the ability to play this number game. There are other people who are more capable than me who can do it.”

The filmmaker said that he just wants the audience to love the film as he has made it with a lot of love. He expressed his happiness over the immense love he has received from the audience and how they loved the songs, dance and comedy.

Furthermore, the director further discussed how content is consumed more intensely on the OTT medium. According to him, the digital streaming service combines the community experience of cinema with the individual viewing aspect of television. He acknowledged the fact that digital platforms have made content consumption accessible to everyone.

Tiwari expressed his happiness at being the first to step into the digital space with shows like Band Baaja Baaraat, Love Per Square Foot to Majaa Maa. He admitted to having learned a lot in the process and while things are changing, the director mentioned that the hunger for good content remains constant.

Despite delivering successful projects in the past, Tiwari revealed that those projects get the green light but no one gets any priority. He mentioned that only good content is accepted. He stressed that one needs to make a place within the ecosystem.

He said, “Sometimes there are a lot of projects in the action genre and sometimes there are a lot of family dramas. So, you need to ensure that your content is different and unique.”

A few weeks ago, the film began premiering on Amazon Prime Video, however, it could be watched on rent. Nevertheless, just a few days ago, the makers delighted fans by announcing that the film is now available to watch for free. The update was shared on September 13, 2024, which read, “Aaj Ki Taza Khabar (Today’s Latest News) Bad News is now streaming on Prime Video.”

The comedy film Bad Newz is the second installment of Good Newz released in 2019. The first part starred Akshay Kumar, Diljit Dosanjh, Kiara Advani and Kareena Kapoor in the lead roles.

Almost five years later, the makers made a second part which revolves around a rare phenomenon, Heteropaternal Superfecundation. It is identified as a condition in which a woman can get pregnant from two different men at the same time.

Directed by Anand Tiwari, the film is written by Ishita Moitra and Tarun Dudeja. It is produced by Hiroo Yash Johar, Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta, Amritpal Singh Bindra and Anand Tiwari. It also stars Neha Dhupia and Sheeba Chaddha in pivotal roles, while Ananya Pandey and Neha Sharma also make special appearances.
