Stories are only for entertainment – are they however? Education is a serious business. But, what kind of business? Education is equal to most setups, the mind, mug-up and marks. Then what is the word for reading, writing, learning and understanding? The education of a child is always seen by the marks they score in the exam, but to score more in this race, most children lose their curiosity and conspiracy. Nevertheless, in almost every childhood memory, there is a teacher who retains his innocent conspiracy and remains separate from the rest.
‘Anagnagaga’, which means ‘Once Upon a Time’, is a story about a teacher who weaves interesting stories to ensure that their students do not just mug the principles only to forget them later, but understand the concepts and maintain learning. Film, streaming on OTT platform ETV winSunny is written and directed by Sanjay and includes Sumant, Kajal Chaudhary and Master Viharash in the lead.
The film follows Vyas Sir (Sumantha), who loved a primary school teacher students, but did not love management for her style of teaching. He is married to God (Kajal), who is also the principal of the school. His son Ram (Viharhah), who studies in the same school, struggles with his numbers and is unable to handle the pressure of his teachers.
Unable to cope, Ram fails five subjects in his examination and is humiliated by his mother in front of the entire school. What do Vyas sir do to help his son? Can Rama remove his problems? What happens next because the bets become more and emotions are even more intense? Answers to these questions become the original of the film.
Writer-director Sunny Sanjay is entitled to credit for pening such a practical story, garnishing brilliantly with Bhavna. In the film, parts, Nani-starrer reminds of ‘Jersey’, the way it bends in the feelings of a father-son bond. However, this story is not innocent. While the first half sheds a light on the father-son bond, problems in the education system, the innovation of a teacher, and the quite children, the second half appears to be one of the melodramatic story of unsuccessful deletion.
Sanjay, despite these flaws, offers an impressive film that raises many questions about the Indian education system. Not listening to the problems of a child is the biggest concern – and this is what the director attempts to expose with a solution: that teachers should be kind and receptive.
Actor Sumanth worked well as Vyas sir’s love and respect. He brings a certain innocence to the screen, provoking the attraction of everyone’s favorite teacher. Although now there are moments of monotony, it leaves a permanent effect with the climax.
Master Viharahah deserves a special mention, especially for his climax monologue. That scene – and this small bundle of talent – is a certain tear. Kajal Chaudhary’s performance, however, is overwhelmed. His character had all the ability to increase the emotional bet of the film, but did not reach there.
The filmmaking of ‘Oknaaga’ overtakes Rai’s mixed bag. Although some can call it old, others can call it indifferent. Music, cinematography, editing, color grading, set design, dialogues – all departments had early 2000s of early touching touch. A few moments can also remind the audience ETV Daily soap. Even if it leaves some places for disappointment, the film completely pleases the heart.
Many films have explored the flaws of the first education system – ‘Taare Zameen Paar’, ‘3 Idiots’, ‘Super 30’, ‘Hindi Medium’, Kannada Film ‘Drona’, Tamil film ‘Vathi’, and more. Every time these films are released, they discuss about the Indian education system. Now, ‘Donagaga’ also has the ability to join this club – but will this film, finally, bring real changes?
only time will tell.
