Mohanlal’s ‘Ampuran’ has broken another box office record for Malayalam cinema. As posted by the actor on X, the film has registered a share of Rs 100 crore worldwide in eight days, which is the largest ever for any Malayalam film. On the social media platform, Mohanlal wrote, “100 million+ dramatic parts worldwide! For the first time in the history of Malayalam cinema!
Before you read, what is the ‘share’ at the box office here is a simple interpretation: A share is the amount that stays with the distributor after reducing the theater’s fare and other expenses from the net collection.
‘L2: Emapuran’, who is directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, and also acting with Mohanlal, has achieved another notable feat domesticly. The film is currently in a trap of Rs 88.25 crore on the ticket window in India, while the gross box office has crossed a benchmark of Rs 100 crore. This ‘L2: Empuran’ only makes the fourth Malayalam film, which has crossed the mark.

As mentioned by the business website Sacnilk‘L2: Empuran’ has earned around 71.50 crores from Kerala alone. At this speed, it will emerge as the highest -grossing film in the home state. However, for this, to emerge as the largest Malayalam film worldwide, it also needs to do better work in the rest of the country. The film has so far grossed about 31 crores from the rest of India’s market in eight days. This can be due to its controversial content that created a lot of political stir.
Meanwhile, it is preparing to cross the ‘Manjumel Boys’ at the box office around the world. ‘Impuran’ is currently running at Rs 236 crore globally, while ‘Manjmel Boys’ earned a gross of Rs 241 crore during his lifetime.
‘L2: Emapuran’ was released in theaters on 27 March.
