Ampuran Box Office Day 11: Controversy between Mohanlal’s uncheckon global run
‘L2: Empuran’ is only Rs 2 crore less than hitting a century at the domestic box office. However, Mohanlal-Starrer has already emerged as the highest grossing Malayalam film of all times globally.

Mohanlal and Prithviraj Sukumaran’s ‘L2: Emapuran’ has left the box office records despite triggering a line on their politically controversial content. The film has now emerged as the highest grossing Malayalam film of all times worldwide, while the domestic collection is with a benchmark of Rs 100 crore.
After earning Rs 88.25 crore in its first week in India, Sukumaran’s director took a dip in his collection, perhaps due to controversy. The film registered a net of Rs 3.85 crore on its second Sunday, recorded a 11 -day business at a domestic level in a network of Rs 98.35 crore, reported the business website. Sacnilk,
Interestingly, while its performance seems slightly slower than expected, ‘L2: Empuraan’ is re -writing history for Malayalam cinema abroad. The film has crossed the lifetime collection of ‘Manjmel Boys’ to emerge as the top Malayalam film globally. As mentioned by the trade website, the film grossed over Rs 241.50 crore worldwide in nine days, which led to a gross of Rs 241 crore that 2024 Malayalam film gathered in its lifetime.
This includes gross of Rs 106.50 crore from the domestic market and more than Rs 135 crore abroad. Interestingly, ‘L2: Empuraan’ has also become the third largest -grossing Indian film worldwide this year, which has ‘Chhawa’, which collected more than Rs 800 crore, and ‘Sankranthi Vastunam’, which did his global business of more than Rs 255 crore. In fact, it can already cross the ‘Sankranthi Vastunam’, with its brilliant second Sunday performance in the foreign markets.

Meanwhile, on April 2, the Censor Board voluntarily approved the 24 cuts suggested by the film’s team, as a section of the audience was disturbed by the scenes, which seemed to be portraying the 2002 Gujarat riots. However, while the film is now running in theaters in its revised edition, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) raided the offices of the film’s co-producer, Gopalam Gopalam. Prithviraj Sukumaran, who is both the director and the star of the film, was also issued an income tax notice, seeking clarification on the remuneration from his three films in 2022.
Neither Mohanlal nor Sukumaran have talked about the investigation so far.
‘L2: Emapuran’ was released in theaters on 27 March.
