Amidst the success of Dhurandhar 2, old interview of Pakistani politician Nabil Gabol resurfaces.
Since the release of Dhurandhar, Pakistani politician Nabeel Gabol had claimed that the character Jameel Jamali, played by Rakesh Bedi, was based on him. Here’s how they reacted to his portrayal in the film.

Amid debate over “promotion” tag Dhurandhar: Revenge And Jamil Jamali’s portrayal of the film’s real-life inspiration, actor Rakesh Bedi, has led to intense speculation about its similarity to Pakistani politician Nabeel Gabol. Interestingly, Gabol’s old interview has resurfaced after the release of the Aditya Dhar directed film.
Veteran politician criticized his portrayal in a viral interview stalwart (2025) and said, “I am not at all happy because what has been shown is not the culture of our Lyari that you will see disco inside Lyari. Someone should speak in Punjabi in Lyari because Baloch does not speak Punjabi. (I’m not happy at all because of the way Jameel Jamali has been shown – it’s not the culture of Lyari, you won’t see discos there. Besides, Baloch people don’t speak Punjabi).”

“I had a dominant role in the culture of Lyari, I ruled the state of Lyari with great authority. A sycophantic character was shown in it, so that role did not fit me. there was no country or anything like that (In Lyari, I had a strong, commanding role. But here, a sycophantic character is shown which doesn’t suit me, there was nothing like fear or terror in it),” he said.

Nabil Gabol after the U-turn Dhurandhar: Revenge release
After the release of stalwart (2025), Nabil Gabol initially acknowledged the comparisons, openly stating that the character Jamil Jamali was based on him. In various televised debates and media interactions, politicians often discussed the connection and appeared to claim ownership of the role’s inspiration.

Who is Nabil Gabol?
Nabeel Gabol, born and brought up in Lyari, Karachi, is a veteran Pakistani politician who currently serves as the Member of the National Assembly (MNA) from NA-239 Karachi South-I for the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP). He has also represented Lyari for PPP for a long time.
He has also been the Minister of State for Ports and Shipping between 2008 and 2011 and became the youngest Deputy Speaker of the Sindh Assembly from 1993 to 1996. While he has been largely associated with the PPP, his political journey also includes a brief stint with the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) between 2013 and 2017.
Dhurandhar: Revenge Has been released in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada. The film also stars actors Ranveer Singh, Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt, R Madhavan, Sara Arjun and Danish Pandor in lead roles. It is co-produced by Jio Studios and B62 Studios.
The espionage thriller was released theatrically on March 19, 2026, along with actor Pawan Kalyan’s Telugu action-drama. Ustad Bhagat Singh.
