A short reel of an American expat living in India recently went viral on Instagram. In the video, Dana revealed that she takes her child to a pub after preschool. She explained that it is one of the things she does in India, but “not abroad”. The clip shows the little one and her mother hanging out at a place in Bengaluru during the day, enjoying food and the bright ambiance of the place. In the caption, Dana explains the factors that allow her to take her child along and what makes it different from pubs abroad.

She first credits “almost all Indian pubs” for having extensive mocktail and/or fresh juice menus, which provide options for non-drinkers. According to the caption, she doesn’t drink alcohol herself. Next, she points out that many pubs in Bangalore are open-air and don’t allow smoking of any kind. However, she points out that “this is not the case in many parts of India”. A smoking ban would naturally make a place more kid-friendly. But that’s not all. “Bangalore pubs often have a really nice atmosphere. This pub has fish ponds all around, which is fun for little kids,” Dana writes. Some places seem to go even further. The mom says that some places have kids’ activities on the weekends and she’s even attended a child’s birthday party at a pub in the past. Finally, she said that her child loves going to Bangalore pubs during the day. Still, she wouldn’t bring him along at night. Click here to see the full post.
