Amar Lenin of Ritvik Ghatak, Komal Gandhar screening canceled on the political line
Classic Films of Ritvik Ghatak, Amar Lenin and Komal Gandhar were denied screening in Kolkata schools due to political pressure. Cultural Oragnisation performed the roadside screening for the public after refusing the school.

On February 10, the screening of Amar Lenin, a documentary of Ritvik Ghatak and his classic film Komal Gandhi, was allegedly canceled in a school run by a government in Kolkata. Allegedly there was cancellation of objections from the local ruling party supporters, who said the political subject of the film was unfair to an educational institution.
Nakatla Sethu, a cultural organization in South Kolkata, planned the film’s screening Birth of Mark Ghatak, centenary.
However, on 5 February, school officials on Thursday canceled their permission, citing “some events”, according to the organization’s spokesman Onkar Roy.
“Headmaster was excited about the screening at the beginning when he contacted us in the third week of January, even mentioning that he was a fan of the Ghatak. But after 5 February, he seemed under pressure and we seemed under pressure It was informed that there were problems in the screening of films, ”Roy told PTI.
The organization then approached a local club, but he also rejected his request to screen the film citing pressure from higher officials.
In response, the organization, which is known for its social justice activism and community engagement, organized a roadside screening in the nearby Bidan Pali area, where hundreds of people gathered to see.
Amar Lenin (1970), designed to honor Vladimir Lenin Birth anniversary, initially faced censorship issues. However, these sanctions were later lifted after intervention from the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
This is not the first time that a film has faced censorship in Bengal due to political pressure. Earlier, Anik Dutta’s Bhabiyotor ghost, a satirical, its dramatic release on contemporary politics, also faced obstacles during the Sparking Street Protests.
