Alfonso Cuaron returns to the director’s chair with the upcoming Apple TV show, Disclaimer. The series will star Cate Blanchett. The show will be based on Renée Knight’s best-selling novel of the same name.
Blanchett will play Catherine Ravenscroft, a journalist who seeks to build a good reputation in the industry by exposing the wrongdoings of other employees.
In addition to Blanchett, the show also stars acclaimed actors such as Kevin Kline, Academy Award nominee Sacha Baron Cohen, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Lesley Manville, Louise Partridge, Leila George and Hoyon.
According to the series synopsis, the story will revolve around a journalist who “built her reputation by exposing the misdeeds and crimes of others.” It further states that her life is turned upside down after she receives a novel from an unknown author, following which “she is horrified to discover that she is now the main character in a story that exposes her darkest secrets.”

As Cuaron’s character tries to learn about the novel’s author, she is forced to confront her past, which also impacts the lives of her husband and son, played by Baron Cohen and Smit-McPhee, respectively.
The trailer opens with viewers being treated to a scene where Blanchett sits next to her husband moments before receiving the award for best journalist. The actress’ character undergoes a quick transformation where she burns a book when the fire alarm goes off.
“They say fate knocks on the door,” Kilne said in his voice in the background. “That’s not true. Fate doesn’t knock on any doors. It just barges in without permission and grabs your soul.”
“The world needs to know who Katherine Ravenscroft really is. The world needs to know the truth,” the actor says further in the trailer.
As for the director of the series, Cuaron will return to the industry after six years, his last project before this being Roma, which released in 2018.
Disclaimer: This will be a limited seven-episode series that will hit the screens on October 11.
