An Alabama police officer shot a 15-year-old boy who was threatening his family members and officers with knives and a gun, according to the police chief.
The shooting happened Saturday when officers responded to an Athens home after a man reported an unruly teen was threatening his relatives with a weapon, WAFF-TV reported.
Athens Police Chief Anthony Presnell said police learned the boy was armed with knives, which he began throwing at police inside the home. The teen then pointed a rifle at officers and was shot by one of them, Presnell said.
He said the boy later died despite efforts by emergency responders to treat him.
The police chief said the investigation into the shooting has been turned over to the Alabama State Bureau of Investigation.
