Ajith Kumar’s racing film is in the works, confirms director AL Vijay
A special project from filmmaker AL Vijay is documenting actor Ajith Kumar’s enduring passion for motorsport. Recently in an interview the director has confirmed this film.

Away from the film sets, Ajit Kumar’s life is now literally running towards the screen. Director AL Vijay has confirmed that a special project showcasing Ajith Kumar’s motorsport journey is already in the works, and if his words are anything to go by, it’s less about stardom and more about sheer grit.
Calling Ajith a future “motorsport icon in India”, Vijay says the film shows a side of the actor that very few have seen.
in an interview with motor disconnectionVijay described himself as “fortunate” to be welcomed into Ajith’s racing world. Recalling his first day with the team, the filmmaker said that Ajith simply told him, “Welcome to my world,” a line that, according to Vijay, perfectly expresses the actor’s openness and humility.
What impressed Vijay the most was Ajith’s mentality on the track. That said, motorsport is not treated casually by the actor. Vijay underlined the high-risk nature of the sport and the mental strength it requires, saying, “For them, racing is a do-or-die situation. Survival is the main thing.” Seeing Ajit run closely made his admiration even deeper. He said, “My respect for him increased after watching him live. Ajit sir is giving a lot to this sport. He is going to be a motorsport icon in India. He is a trendsetter.”
However, Ajith’s filming came with its own challenges. Vijay revealed that even moments that seemed like a break were illusory. “Sometimes it will look like he’s relaxing, but actually he might be planning a race strategy,” he said. The director also pointed out Ajith’s simplicity off the track – he would often roam around without any entourage and handle small tasks on his own without any hassle.
Ajit’s growing presence in motorsports includes competing in international events such as the Asian Le Mans Series. A moment at the Circuit de Barcelona in Spain, where he was seen calmly urging fans to maintain civility, went viral and earned widespread praise. Another widely shared clip showed a quiet, affectionate moment with his wife Shalini during the event, further cementing his image of being down-to-earth and patient even under pressure.
