A tense new academic battlefield is about to unfold on screen. Prime Video has unveiled the trailer for Luca Guadagnino’s psychological drama ‘After the Hunt’, and it delivers a volatile mix of power, memory and moral ambiguity, driven by a formidable Julia Roberts.

The film begins streaming Thursday, November 20 and brings together a stellar ensemble cast including Ayo Adebiri, Andrew Garfield, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Chloë Sevigny. After the Hunt premiered at the Venice Film Festival earlier this year ahead of a select theatrical release.

In the story, Roberts plays a university professor whose life is thrown into moral complexity when one of his students (Edebiri) accuses a colleague (Garfield) of misconduct. As she moves into professional academia, a long-buried secret from her past threatens to resurface, forcing her to confront the limits of honesty, loyalty, and self-preservation.

Written by Nora Garrett, the film is firmly established as a psychological thriller and has an R-rating for its themes and tone. Guadagnino directs with a characteristically quiet intensity, exploring the dynamics of institutional power and the delicate lines between truth and perception.

The film is produced by Brian Grazer, Luca Guadagnino, Jeb Brody and Alan Mandelbaum, with Karen Lunder, Justin Wilkes, Alice Dawson and Garrett serving as executive producers.

Guadagnino and Julia Roberts have both been honored in the Gotham Awards’ Visionary Tribute this year. The Gotham Film & Media Institute described the honor as recognition of an “unprecedented collaboration that pushes the boundaries of storytelling in film.”

After ‘After the Hunt’, Guadagnino is already set to reunite with Amazon’s MGM Studios for his upcoming AI-powered film Artificial, which stars Mary Rylance, Garfield, Monica Barbero, Billie Lourd, Cooper Hoffman, Jason Schwartzman, and others.
