Donald Trump may have been involved with a porn star, but he could try to shut down the entire industry if elected president, adult film stars warn to motivate youth to vote against Republicans next month Have been.
The #HandsOffMyporn campaign has spent $200,000 so far on ads running on adult websites, warning viewers that key Trump allies want to ban pornography and shut down the stars who live it out in vibrant, graphic lives. Let’s bring in.
And they want Americans to fight back at the ballot box.
“If you care about adult entertainment, if you consume or produce adult entertainment, you have to vote on November 5,” porn actress Siouxsie Q told AFP. “There’s no two ways about it.”
The initiative comes in response to Project 2025, a blueprint for reshaping the federal government if Republican nominee Trump wins the election.
Page five of the preface to the 900-page book states: “Obscene literature should be outlawed. Those who produce and distribute it should be jailed.”
Trump has tried to distance himself from Project 2025. But dozens of his aides and former administration members co-authored the document, and Democrats have argued that many of its policies match their own positions.
According to the Institute for Family Studies, the #HandsOffMyporn campaign is primarily targeted at men, who are four times more likely to report watching porn than women.
Just weeks before a very close US election between Trump and Democrat Kamala Harris, pollsters have reported a huge gender divide among voters.
Trump has a strong lead among male voters, regularly pitching his machismo to young men on right-wing podcasts.
Now, #HandsOffMyporn “public service announcements” are being played for users in battleground states like Pennsylvania, Arizona and Georgia, often right before viewing adult videos.
Stars like Siouxsie Q appear and say: “Hey, I know you’re busy. I know you’re doing something. Hang in there. If you want to keep doing this, you really have to.” Gotta vote…enjoy!”
Siouxsie Q said Harris is in no way affiliated with the #HandsOffMyporn campaign, which is paid for by the Independent Artists United for Change committee.
He added, “Hopefully, secretly, he’ll like what we’re doing.”
‘Lightning conductor’
The crackdown on pornography is nothing new for the United States.
But Holly Randall, a 26-year veteran of the adult industry, said she has never seen such a potentially devastating threat to the sector.
This includes when her parents, who worked in porn during Ronald Reagan’s crackdown in the 1980s, had to secretly film hardcore scenes.
“I’ve seen these attacks come and go…Project 2025 is the clearest iteration of the desire to ban porn altogether,” he said.
“Of course, I’m concerned about confinement,” said Siouxsie Q, who made her name starring in feminist, queer and bondage films before moving into producing.
Porn stars also warn that the consequences could extend far beyond their hugely popular industry.
According to Siouxsie Q, pornography is the “canary in the coal mine” for the freedom of speech guaranteed by the First Amendment. He also pointed to the Republican-led ban of sex education books from school libraries.
And Randall said adult entertainment is a “lightning rod” for broader issues like trans rights, same-sex marriage and even reproductive rights.
“It’s always the easiest thing to attack, because it reflects people’s uncertainty and fear about the changing morality of sexuality and gender fluidity,” she said.
‘illegal’
Trump has repeatedly claimed that he has nothing to do with Project 2025.
However, a New York Times investigation this week found that “more than half” of the document’s authors were in Trump’s previous administration or on his campaign or transition teams.
Randall noted the irony of Trump – convicted of fraud in the payment of “hush money” to porn star Stormy Daniels – joining the movement, even though he suspected he personally “didn’t care about it.” Whether it’s illegal or not.”
“But it’s the people around him, like (Trump’s running mate) J.D. Vance, these far-right conservatives, who want to ban porn,” he said.
Vance wrote the introduction to the Project 2025 section of author Kevin D. Roberts’ upcoming book, which calls for a ban on porn.
“I think Trump would simply step aside and let that happen,” Randall said.
