Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has formed a committee like the Hema Committee to investigate sexual harassment in the Bengali film industry. Actress Ritabhari Chakraborty shared the news on Instagram.

Actress Ritabhari Chakraborty shared on Instagram that West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has formed a committee to investigate sexual harassment in the Bengali film industry. The actress said that this committee, which will be called the Hema Committee, will not include film industry personalities.
In the post, Ritabhari Chakraborty mentioned, “Yesterday CM @mamataofficial responded to our request to form a body like Hema Samiti. My request to not have any political names or film personalities in the body was heard.”
Sharing information about the committee, she said, “An impartial committee of five members has been formed under the chairmanship of a former judge, which includes women working in various positions from doctors to lawyers. This committee will investigate sexual harassment in the Bengali film industry and prepare a report. This is the first step towards exposing the culprits.”
The caption of the post read, “Not representing any party, but on behalf of the women of Tollywood – in a meeting yesterday, the CM heard all the issues that have been troubling women in the Bengali film industry for centuries and took a step to clean it from these predators. Investigations take time but we will see the end of this.”

In the note, she revealed that she and many of her colleagues have gone through harrowing experiences at the hands of influential actors and filmmakers in the industry, and hence, the government should work towards establishing a body like the Hema Committee in the Bengali film industry as well.
recently, Arindam Sil suspended indefinitely by Directors Association of Eastern India (DAEI) suspended him following allegations of sexual harassment on the sets of one of his films. The suspension was in response to the severity of the allegations and the preliminary evidence reviewed by the DAEI. Sil appeared before the Women’s Commission and apologised. In his letter, he expressed regret, saying, “If the actor has been offended by my unintentional behaviour, I sincerely apologise for the same.”
