The audio launch of ‘Thangalan’ took place in Chennai on August 5. Speaking on the occasion, Parvathy said, “The point is that cinema can be seen as entertainment. It can also become a blockbuster. But, everything we do in our lives is political. There is nothing apolitical about it.”

He further added, “It is no coincidence that ‘Thangalan’ is releasing on Independence Day. We use words like freedom and oppression casually. We must continue to read about inequality and know why it still exists. However uncomfortable it may be, you have to accept it. The personal is political. Art is political. For this, Ranjith is leading an army, and I am happy to be your soldier.”

She further added that it was her long-time dream to work in Pa Ranjith’s film. She said, “I had an opportunity before ‘Thangaalan’, but it could not materialise. I think it was written that I should play the role of Gangamma in ‘Thangaalan’. When I got a call from Pa Ranjith, I immediately accepted the film.”

‘Thangalan’ is set to release in theatres on August 15. The film stars Chiyaan Vikram in the lead role. Set in Kolar Gold Fields in Karnataka, the film talks about oppression and inequality in demographics.
