Hollywood legends Kate Hudson and Hugh Jackman are set to lead the upcoming film musical Song Sung Blue, inspired by the true story of the Neil Diamond tribute band. The film, directed and written by Craig Brewer (Hustle & Flow), will be produced by Focus Features and Davis Entertainment.
The story follows two struggling musicians, played by Jackman and Hudson, who come together to form a Neil Diamond tribute band. According to the official synopsis, the film will explore themes of love and resilience, showing that “it’s never too late to find love and achieve your dreams.”
Hudson, who recently released her debut album Glorious, will co-star with Tony Award-winning actor and Broadway veteran Jackman. The film also features a strong supporting cast, including Michael Imperioli, Fisher Stevens, Jim Belushi, and composer King Princess.
Songs Sung Blue is based on the 2008 documentary of the same name by Greg Kohs, who serves as executive producer for the fictional adaptation. The original documentary received recognition for its heartfelt portrayal of the real-life tribute band, and the new musical promises to bring that story to the big screen with a fresh, joyful twist.
