Actor Asif Ali on Ramesh Narayan and award controversy: It was a misunderstanding
Malayalam music composer Ramesh Narayan was criticised for refusing to accept an award from actor Asif Ali at the trailer launch of ‘Manorathangal’. Now, Asif Ali has reacted to the controversy.

Actor Asif Ali has reacted to the controversy surrounding him being allegedly ignored by renowned music composer Ramesh Narayan. Ali said he is speaking out because of the hate campaign being run targeting Narayan. The actor said Narayan’s reaction was influenced by personal issues he was facing at the time.
“It got to the point that it was being discussed on the basis of religion. There is nothing like that. It was his (Ramesh Narayan’s) misunderstanding at that time. I had high fever and I saw online that discussions had started on it yesterday afternoon itself. I spoke to him this morning. I was confused about what to say on it.”
Asif said, “Whatever I say about this should not be taken in any other way. His voice was trembling when I spoke and it hurt me a lot. Given his seniority or age, he should not have apologised to me. But it was taken to that level.”
He added, “I honestly didn’t want to give any opinion or discuss it. I am speaking up because of the hate campaign being run against him and what he is going through right now. First of all, they forgot to call him and later his name was called wrongly. He might have felt the stress at that time which any human being would feel.”
Asif said, “He had some problem in his leg, so when I was giving him the memento, he couldn’t come on stage. He was going through a lot at that time and he reacted like any human being. But when it all came in front of the camera, I felt it was very clear. I was 100 percent not sad or upset by it and I have no complaints. Maybe he reacted like that to something that was worrying him. You could understand it from my reaction. I did what I had to do.”
