Two activists have gone on hunger strike outside Google Deepmind offices in London and anthropic in the US, calling companies to stop the development of advanced artificial intelligence. The purpose of the protest is to draw attention to what they describe as a dangerous race for the creation of powerful AI systems.

One of the protesters, 45 -year -old activist, Guido Rechstater has not eaten for more than a week. He told Business Insider that he would continue his strike until he responds to his concerns. In a post on the online forum lassutrong, he urged the company’s management and employees to “immediately stop their careless tasks, which are harming our society and working to overcome the already caused damage.”

Reichstadter is also calling Anthropic CEO Dario Amodi to completely eliminate Frontier AI development. He said that on the first day of his protest, he personally gave a letter to Amodi, in which he stopped moving forward with such technology. Until he receives an answer, the Reachstator said that he would only be on water, electrolytes and multiwitamins.

Protest comes at a time when concerns about AI are being raised globally. Jeffri Hinton, who is considered one of the pioneers of the region, said in the interview that some major technical authorities are not being opened about risks. Even Amodi has warned himself of massive disruption, predicting at the beginning of this year that the AI can erase half of all the white-collar jobs of all entry level within the next five years.

Reichstadter is not new to activism. In 2022, he staged a hunger strike for 15 days in Miami to raise awareness about the climate crisis. He is also the founder of the “Stop AI”, who is a campaign group working permanently to ban the construction of artificial superintendents. In the past, he was arrested for closing the doors of the San Francisco office of OpenaiI and now faced a test in that case.

His action has encouraged others to join. Outside the London Office of Deepmind, 29 -year -old Michael Traizy, former French AI security researcher, has also stopped eating as part of the protest. He said that he wants to publicly commit deepmind CEO Demis Hasabis that the company would not release the new frontier model if other major AI firms also agree to stop. “If this publicly says this publicly from those leaders, you get global coordination around a stagnation,” he told the Business Insider.

Traizy studied Computer Science and AI in Paris and later worked at the Future of Humanity Institute in Oxford, before it was closed last year. Now he creates online material about the AI policy and said that it can help bring public pressure changes on the authorities.
