‘Aapka Apna Zakir’, ‘Kaavya’ and other fiction shows airing on Sony TV are going off air. Details
All shows on Sony Entertainment Channel, including Aapka Apna Zakir, Kavya and Jubilee Talkies, will go off air in a few weeks. The channel will re-telecast India’s Best Dancer, Kaun Banega Crorepati 16 and old shows.

Last month, Star India’s Gaurav Banerjee took charge of Sony Network, and it seems his first task is to attract a larger number of viewers for Sony Television. According to sources close to IndiaToday.in, the general entertainment channel is set to undergo a major overhaul by the end of the year. The creative team is currently working together to create new content and keep its viewers coming back. The objective is clear: to create a niche for Sony TV.
All fiction shows on the channel have been shut down. The production of daily soaps – Kaavya- Ek Jazbaa, Ek Junoon, Pukar Dil Se Dil Tak and Jubilee Talkies – has already been stopped. The remaining episodes of these shows will be aired, which may run for a few more weeks, according to sources.
In another shocker for fans, Zakir Khan’s comedy-chat show, Aapka Apna Zakir, has been pulled off air. The show, which launched with much hype in August, failed to attract people.
The source added, “Recently, Zakir was unwell and the team decided to take a break. However, the shoot did not resume and the team was informed about the show’s closure. Though it was always a limited show, no one expected that the journey would end in just a month.”
Now if you are wondering what Sony TV will telecast after all the shows go off air, the answer lies in its classic winners- CID and Crime Patrol. Religious drama Mere Sai has also made a comeback on the general entertainment channel.
The source added, “The reruns of these old shows have garnered better numbers than the original shows, which proves that the decision has worked for the channel. While Crime Patrol and Mere Sai are already back, the team is trying to re-telecast episodes of CID. It is also determined to bring the fan favourite detective show back into production.
As of now, India’s Best Dancer (IBD), Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC) 16 and the upcoming new season of Indian Idol will continue to entertain the audience. As per sources, IBD and KBC are getting a good number of viewers and the team is taking advantage of it.
Now that the redesign is being implemented, only time will tell if it was truly a successful operation.
