Aamir Khan is one of those actors who have given many hit films in his long film career. However, there were some films that did not make much of an impact at the box office and also failed to impress the audience. One of them is the 2022 comedy-drama film, Laal Singh Chaddha. Although it was one of Khan’s most ambitious films, it did not succeed in India. But reportedly, it was successful overseas.
The film is an Indian remake of director Robert Zemeckis’ American comedy-drama film, Forrest Gump, which was released in 1994. Popular Indian filmmaker, Ram Gopal Varma recently spoke with Galata Plus, where he talked about Aamir’s obsession with Forrest Gump. However, he also speculated as to why the film did not become such a huge success.
He said that Aamir Khan loves Forrest Gump. Hence, Laal Singh Chaddha was like a dream project for him and the actor had been building it in his mind for years. The Sarkar 3 filmmaker further added that he doesn’t know if the film would have turned out well or not. “But the point is that by the time you reach the end, he is attracting an audience who has never seen Forrest Gump,” Varma added.
In the interview, he further added that it was originally an Aamir Khan film. So, there doesn’t need to be any history behind it. “So, the subject that Aamir took from Forrest Gump might not interest the audience. But, this is all speculation,” he added.
The director also spoke about the 2018 film Thugs of Hindostan directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya. He said that a bad film is an individual’s perception, adding that no one knows what people are going to like. He said, “You can’t go beyond the masses.”
Let us tell you that Laal Singh Chaddha also stars Kareena Kapoor Khan, Naga Chaitanya and Mona Singh. Meanwhile, on the work front, Aamir Khan is busy shooting for his upcoming film, Sitare Zameen Par with Genelia Deshmukh. The sports drama film is based on the Spanish film Champions and is scheduled to release in theaters on December 27, 2024.
