Aamir Khan supports Leonardo DiCaprio, says theatrical business needs protection
Aamir Khan supports Leonardo DiCaprio’s view on the safety of theatrical releases, saying that the current balance between theaters and streaming platforms is not an “aesthetic compromise”.

After Leonardo DiCaprio expressed concern about the shrinking theatrical window amid the rise of streaming platforms, Aamir Khan has expressed similar sentiments. He said that the current situation between theaters and OTT is far from an ‘absolute agreement’.
in an interview with Variety IndiaAamir was asked if he sees Indian cinema moving towards a balanced understanding with streaming platforms. Sharing his views he said, “At the moment, it is not a decent compromise. It is not a good situation. So, I think a decent compromise is much better, but at this moment, it does not seem decent to me from any angle.”

The actor further said that this issue is not limited to Hindi cinema only but is being felt across all industries. He said, “Not just in Hindi, a lot of producers are facing this. Even in the South, many of the producers I have spoken to are facing this problem. I agree with what Leonardo DiCaprio said that the theatrical window needs to be protected to some extent. If you want the theatrical business to flourish and be healthy, you need to protect it.”
Aamir emphasized that the same model cannot work for every film. According to him, different types of films require different release strategies.
“I think you need to work on different models. Mainstream films, where there is so much at stake, need a slightly longer time frame. like a movie stalwart This was beneficial. I think some really big movies can have longer theatrical windows. Maybe small, experimental films need small films. So, we need a flexible model,” he said.
His comments come at a time when the debate around theatrical releases versus direct-to-streaming premieres is intensifying, especially after the pandemic has changed viewing habits around the world.
