With the selection of Lapata Ladies as India’s official entry to the Oscars, Aamir Khan’s film has grabbed everyone’s attention. In a recent interview, the actor shared his views on the significance of winning the Oscar for India. He expressed that if The Missing Ladies wins the prestigious Academy Award, people in India will go ‘ballistic’ because ‘we are dying for an Indian film to win an Academy Award which hasn’t happened yet.’
In a recent conversation with BBC News India, Aamir Khan shared his thoughts on what winning an Oscar would mean for India. He mentioned that although he does not take competitions very seriously, he would be really happy if Missing Ladies won. According to him, an Oscar win creates a momentous occasion for a film, as it sparks global interest and attracts a large audience that is eager to see what makes the film special.
Khan also revealed how Indians would react if Missing Ladies won the prestigious award. He said that, as a nation passionate about films, India has long expected an Academy Award for an Indian production, a milestone it has yet to achieve.
The PK actor said that such a win will create a frenzy in the country, people will celebrate fiercely and he will be very happy to see the joy it will bring to the Indian audience.
In India’s history, only three films—Mother India, Salaam Bombay and Lagaan—have been nominated in the International Feature Film category at the Oscars, but none managed to win.
Most recently, RRR earned Best Original Song, and The Elephant Whispers won Best Documentary Short. Additionally, Writing with Fire and All That Breathes received nominations in the Best Documentary Feature category.
With Lapata Ladies now in the limelight, expectations have increased a lot. The Oscars 2025 shortlist is set to be revealed on Tuesday, December 17, 2024.
On the work front, Aamir Khan will star alongside Darsheel Safary and Genelia Deshmukh in Sitare Zameen Par, which will release in theaters in 2025. He is also producing the film Lahore 1947 directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and starring Sunny Deol in the lead role.
