Aadujeevitham director slammed U-Turn of Ashutosh Goariker after the National Awards
Director Ashirwad expressed disappointment on ‘Aadujeevitham – Goot Life’ at the National Film Awards. Controversy is associated with director Ashutosh Gowariker’s earlier praise, which is contrary to the jury concerns about the adaptation and execution of the film.

Director Bless shared his views about being disappointed with ‘Aadujeevitham – The Goat Life’ being printed at the 71st National Film Awards. He also referred to confusion and irony as director Ashutosh Gowariker earlier compared the film to ‘Lawrence of Arabs’ (1962).
Blessing, in an interview OnmonoramaSaid that he was upset about the claims of technical deficiencies in Prithviraj Sukumaran. He remembered how the film ‘Lagaan’ had earlier praised the film. The director of ‘Aadujeevitham – The Goat Life’ said, “If someone earlier appreciated the film in such an expansion, how can they reject it on technical grounds? It looks like double standards.”
‘Aadujeevitham – The Goat Life’ is being compared to ‘Lawrence of Arabs’, Ashirwad said, “That comment felt like an award in itself. He (Goverkar) also invited me to discuss the next day the next day to discuss the film which could not visit that night.”
Pradeep Nair, a member of the National Awards Jury, has revealed in the previous interview with the same publication that Govarkar thought of ‘Aadujeevitham – Goat Life’. Nair shared, “Jury Chairperson Ashutosh Gowariker watched the film at a previous film festival in Goa and had serious concerns about the adaptation and execution of the film. Gowarikers and others also felt that adaptation lacked originality and performance was not authentic.”
Nair confirmed that the film was in controversy for the National Awards, but it missed during the final discussion. He further revealed that the makers did not provide the ‘appropriate English translation’ for the song, as the film lost in the best male playback singer and best song categories.
A member of the National Awards Jury also mentioned that although the performance of KR Gokul was ‘widely appreciated’ by the jury, he did not receive an award due to the film’s ‘overall quality’.
Director Vidya Vinod Chopra’s ’12th Fail’ won the award for the Best Feature Film and ‘The Keral Story’ won the best cinematography and the best direction categories. However, ‘Aadujeevitham – The Bakri Life’ missed out on receiving a single honor at the National Film Awards 2023.
The Malayalam Biographical Survival Drama was based on a novel of the same name by Benyamin in 2008.
‘Aadujeevitham – The Goat Jeevan’ was released on March 28, 2024, but was censored in December 2023, leaving the National Film Awards 2023 eligible for 2023.
