The first reactions to the much-awaited release, A Quiet Place: Day One, are here. The film is said to be a prequel to the blockbuster A Quiet Place franchise, starring actor-director and producer John Krasinski. A Quiet Place: Day One screened recently and so far, critics have loved the dystopian horror series, with many calling it ‘raw and scary’.

Rachel Leishman of The Mary Sue tweeted, “A Quiet Place: Day One is my favorite in this franchise. It’s human and raw, and it’s a story of the desperation that happens when all hope is lost and how that turns into a deep connection with one another. Joseph Quinn, you are a movie star! Lupita Nyong’o has an Oscar (sic).”

Anchor Jake Hamilton also praised Lupita’s acting, writing, “I really liked A Quiet Place: Day One. Thematically, if Parts I and II are more akin to Alien – small, quiet moments of terror – Day One is closer to Alien. Big, loud and scary monster carnage. Nyong’o gives her role a heartbreaking weight – and the final shot will leave you shattered.”

Meanwhile, Matt Neglia of the NBP Podcast was not entirely impressed with the story, but still gave high praise to the lead duo: “A Quiet Place: Day One is a bleak and intensely tense summer blockbuster. Emotionally exhausting, this third entry in the horror franchise is at its best when it highlights those small but crucial glimpses of humanity and hope in a time of despair. Lupita Nyong’o, Joseph Quinn do their best to rise above the weak material for their characters.”

Andrew J. Salazar of Discussing Films named Day One as his ‘favorite’ film and called the film a thrilling suspense.

A Quiet Place: Day One will be released on June 28.
