Every other day, Guinness World Records showcases some of the world’s most unknown talents. From people setting records by crushing the most cans in one minute to a woman eating grains of rice with chopsticks, Guinness World Records constantly captivates audiences with its latest and innovative innovations. In one such video posted on their official Instagram page, a man from the United States has set a record for the fastest time to peel and cut a pineapple. Rich Ellenson of Concord, California achieved this remarkable feat in just 17.85 seconds.

This feat was not only about speed but also required precision and technique. According to the GWR, for their records, each slice or piece had to measure a maximum of 3.8 cm (1.5 in) on each side after removing the peel and core. In the video, viewers can see him cutting the pieces into equal sizes, and at the end of the clip, he is seen celebrating his achievement.

Rich achieved this record on April 13, breaking the previous record of 27.07 seconds set by Australia’s Oscar Lynagh in 2022. Speaking with Guinness World Records, Rich said, “I love pineapple. It’s my favorite fruit. Every weekend, I’ll eat it.” Buy three and eat once a day. I learned the hard way that pineapple contains bromelain, which is an enzyme that softens meat, which means if you eat a lot of pineapple, your tongue will become soft too!”

As soon as the video was posted, it got 4 million views.
While Rich’s determination and accuracy was quite admirable, social media users were extremely disappointed by it. One user said, “They are even faster than the people selling pineapple juice on the streets in India, lol.” Another said: “What a waste. “Street vendors are even faster.” “Bro, cut 90% of the pineapple,” read another comment. One person said, “Champion the person who wastes the most pineapples.” Someone else noted, “Incorrect record…it’s not peeling and cutting…it’s just cutting the pineapple in half.”
