The 53-year-old Oscar nominee is all set to host the 2024 BET Awards on June 30. As they say ‘third time’s a charm’, the ‘Color Purple’ star is not at all shy to showcase her skills.
In an interview with People, Taraji hinted at her plans for the show. “I’ll be showcasing another talent that a lot of you don’t know I can do. Some of you do, but not all,” Henson says. “I haven’t gotten the stage yet. Actually, I did once. But not everyone got to see it. This is the biggest night in culture. The world will know.”
‘I would be nervous,’ says Henson
Even though this is her third time, the actress still gets nervous before going on stage. “I love being nervous. I still get nervous. I get nervous the first day of shooting. It’s a live show. Anything can go right or wrong, you know, but that’s what’s most exciting,” Henson says. “That’s what I love about live theater. It keeps you on your toes.”
Taraji P. Henson last served as host in 2022, but that won’t happen next year due to the SAG and WGA strike. “It’s the biggest night in culture. The performances are going to blow us all away. We have Will Smith, guys. I’m so excited to see what he has in store.”
As well as Will Smith, Megan Thee Stallion, Childish Gambino (Donald Glover), Ice Spice and Keke Palmer are also expected to perform this year.
This year, Canadian rapper Drake leads the list with 7 nominations, followed by Nicki Minaj with 6 nominations. While J. Cole, Sexy Red, SZA and Monet have 5 nominations each. While 21 Savage, Beyoncé, Doja Cat, Megan, Tyla and Usher have 4 nominations each. Usher who will receive his Lifetime Achievement Award leaves Henson in awe of the singer.

The 2024 BET Awards will take place on June 30 and air live on the BET channel.
