James Cameron has revealed the title of his third film Avatar. The film has been named Avatar: Fire and Ashes, a name the director says has a deep meaning.

During an interview at the recently held D23 Expo 2024, the True Lies director revealed what exactly he meant by the words “fire and ashes” in the title of his next epic entry. According to James Cameron, the title has several thematic elements that also speak of some emotional journeys that will be seen in the film.

According to the interview uploaded by Fandango on his Instagram channel, Cameron is heard talking about the many meanings behind fire and ashes. He shared what he imagines when someone talks about fire. He said that he usually thinks of fire as a symbol of hate, violence, sometimes trauma or power and even abuse of power. “There’s a lot of thematic things there,” he said.

After the Ghost of the Abyss director explained the meaning behind the word fire, he added his thoughts about the word ash in the title. In the interview with the outlet, James Cameron explained that he thinks the ash in Avatar: Fire and Ash stands for Aftermath.

He also said that the ashes represent the sadness that remains after an accident, and also the consequences you have to live with after your actions.

Talking further about the film, James Cameron said that this time the film will talk about the deeper emotional side of the characters.

Avatar: Fire and Ashes will explore the individual identities of these characters, while also exploring events that lead to a number of experiences and dangerous relationships that also test the characters’ relationships with each other.
