Release date: October 31, 2024
Bloody Beggar starring fan favorite Kavin is director Nelson Dilipkumar’s first production. The director’s brand of comedy has a distinct fan base. Director Shivabalan Muthukumar, who comes from his school, is making his debut with Bloody Beggar. When all these people come together, there are a lot of expectations from the film. The teaser and trailer have also raised the bar quite high. Let us find out if the film impressed the audience.
An unnamed beggar (Kavin) is content with what he is doing in his life. He is not a dramatic beggar who takes advantage of his shortcomings. He is sarcastic and knows how to blame people to earn sympathy. He lives with a little boy named Jack, who sells books on the street to make ends meet. One day, Kavin is invited to a bungalow for a feast along with other beggars.
Surprised by the bungalow, he quietly enters it and locks himself inside. The beggar initially decides to locate the luxurious bungalow and escape from there without anyone knowing. But, he is caught by some people living inside the bungalow, who assign him a task. How does Kevin deal with the unpleasant situation and does it have any connection to his past?
Director Shivabalan Muthukumar’s Bloody Beggar has a solid story at its core. It is a dark comedy about a beggar who wants to live a good life. Who doesn’t? But, can a beggar show his emotions? This is neatly explored in Bloody Beggar without being preachy. The film has an interesting story filled with dwarf characters who are different from each other. All of them including Kavin are perfect for their respective roles.
Here is the trailer:
Kavin makes the character entertaining with his unique qualities. Although it may remind us of Chiyaan Vikram in Pithamagan, he makes it his own. While the complex shows great potential, the manufacturer has failed to explore its full potential. The Bloody Beggar is essentially a dark comedy. However, comedy doesn’t work in most places. Although there are sporadic laughs, but if the jokes had landed, the film would have been liked by a large section of the audience.
After Star, Kavin has once again proved that he is a handsome artiste. With each film, he has improved his ability, and it is a joy to watch him perform, especially during emotional scenes. Radin Kingsley and the rest of the supporting cast fit the character like a glove.
That said, The Bloody Beggar has had its fair share of criticism. After a while, it becomes boring to watch the characters in the film roaming the halls bringing out their crazy side. Also, the pre-climax is too long for its own good. Had the producers opted for a stronger script and clearer editing, The Bloody Beggar would have been much more entertaining.
Bloody Beggar 2.5 out of 5 stars.
