Sujoy Ghosh on Kahaani’s low budget: Vidya Balan changes clothes in covered car
Filmmaker Sujoy Ghosh opened up about the financial constraints he faced during the making of the story. Despite budget constraints, the film emerged as a critical and commercial triumph.

Director Sujoy Ghosh expressed his deep gratitude for Vidya Balan’s unwavering dedication towards the film’s story, especially in the wake of her struggles after the failure of her previous project Aladdin. Ghosh highlighted how Balan stuck to her commitment to the thriller despite setbacks.
“After the failure of Aladdin, Vidya could have easily said no to the story. But he is a man of his word. That generation of actors from Amitabh Bachchan to Shahrukh Khan is amazing sure of tongue (His words are true). Vidya also falls in the same category. She stuck to the story,” Ghosh said in a recent interview Mashable India,
The director revealed what challenges he faced during the production of the film, especially due to budget constraints. “You have no idea. We didn’t even have the budget to buy a vanity van. We didn’t have the luxury of stopping the shoot because our budget was low. So, whenever she had to change clothes, we used to drive her Innova in the middle of the road. They would cover it with a black cloth, and she would wear the clothes inside and come out for shooting,” he shared.
Vidya Balan’s dedication to the story paid off, as the film was a critical and commercial success.
The story stars Vidya Balan as Vidya Bagchi, a pregnant woman searching for her missing husband in Kolkata during the festival of Durga Puja, played by assistant sub-inspector Satyoki ‘Rana’ Sinha (portrayed by Parambrata Chatterjee). ) and Inspector General A Khan (played by ).
