Filmmaker Arindam Sil suspended by Directors’ Association after harassment allegations
Bengali filmmaker Arindam Sil has been suspended indefinitely by the Directors Association of Eastern India following allegations of sexual harassment. The suspension will continue until the matter is resolved.
Bengali filmmaker Arindam Sil has been suspended indefinitely by the Directors Association of Eastern India (DAEI) following allegations of sexual harassment on the sets of one of his films. The suspension has been implemented with immediate effect in response to the seriousness of the allegations and the preliminary evidence reviewed by the DAEI.
According to a statement from DAEI, the decision to suspend Sil was taken due to “certain allegations” and “prima facie evidence” that raised significant concerns. The association stressed that Sil will remain suspended until the allegations are fully investigated and resolved.
The controversy began several months ago when a female artiste accused Sil of inappropriate behaviour on the sets of his film. She alleged that Sil kissed her on the cheek while explaining a shot. The complaint was filed with the state women’s commission, following which three hearings involving Sil were held.
On Friday, Sil once again appeared before the Women’s Commission and apologised. In his letter, he expressed regret and said, “If my unintentional behaviour has insulted the actor, I sincerely apologise for it.”
In view of the confession and the ongoing investigation, the DAEI has decided to suspend Sil from its membership. The organisation has said that the suspension will remain in effect until all charges are dismissed and the situation is resolved.
