With the exodus of people of Indian origin, house prices in Texas have declined.

Republican Brandon Gill, who rarely hides his hatred towards immigrants, including Indians, despite being married to Indian-origin Danielle D’Souza, reacted to a report on the decline in the housing market in Texas due to President Donald Trump’s crackdown on H-1B visa abuse. Bloomberg recently reported on this housing crisis, as Indian-Americans who captured the market by deciding to settle in the US during the pandemic are now considering leaving the US.The New York Post reported that real estate firm CBRE Group confirmed that H-1B workers drove the housing wave in the US between 2018 and today, more than any other factor. But now, as Indian buyers are moving away from the market, prices are coming down. In Collin County, home prices declined nearly 9% year-over-year through February, more than double the 4% decline recorded in the broader Dallas-Fort Worth metro, according to Redfin data.Responding to the New York Post report, Brandon Gill said, ‘Now is the time to completely abolish H1B visas.’

Here are some surprising statistics about Indian-Americans in America

  • Census data shows that Collin and Denton counties became the fastest-growing counties in the country among people with populations of at least 1 million.
  • Collin County’s Indian-origin population was projected to average more than 116,000 annually over the five years to 2024, a sharp increase from 70,000 in the previous five-year period.
  • In Frisco alone, a city of 235,000 residents, census data shows the share of Indian residents rose from about 6% in the early 2010s to nearly 20% by mid-2020.

There was so much demand for homes from Indian-Americans that builders designed homes for this clientele. Zach Schneider of Tradition Homes, a builder in North Texas, designed model homes with north-facing “pooja” rooms for Hindu prayers and optional “masala kitchens” for buyers from India.
