Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh has filed a petition in the Karnataka High Court, seeking quashing of a criminal case against him in connection with his recent comments and imitation of Daiwa portrayal in the film Kantara. The case gained attention after Singh’s comments were described as controversial, leading to legal action against him. The petition was presented in the Bengaluru court and is being considered by a bench headed by Justice M. Nagaprasanna.

Singh’s legal team argued in court that his intentions were not malicious, claiming that his actions stemmed from genuine admiration. In the petition, his lawyer said he was “arguing that his sincere praise for Rishabh Shetty’s performance and the film’s characterization has been wrongly given a criminal colour.”

The defense said the actor was under pressure, with the police already issuing two official notices in connection with the case. “The defense emphasized that the actor was facing undue pressure, noting that the police had already issued two notices in connection with the statement.”

During the proceedings, Singh’s lawyers requested the court to hear the matter urgently and schedule the hearing on the same day, highlighting the ongoing stress on the actor. However, the High Court did not agree to this request. Justice Nagaprasanna raised concerns over the preferential treatment given to celebrities and raised questions on the basis of speedy trial.

Justice Nagaprasanna asked whether the investigation should be expedited merely because the petitioner is a famous Bollywood actor or would the court be expected to move even more quickly for a Hollywood actor. This line of questioning reflects the court’s commitment to equal treatment under the law, regardless of the person’s public status.

Despite repeated pleas from the defence, the court decided to follow its normal procedures and refused an urgent hearing. Maintaining the normal timeline for such cases, the official hearing on Singh’s plea has been scheduled for tomorrow.

The case is generating public and legal interest, with observers awaiting the court’s decision on the case as scheduled.

This is a developing story. It will be updated.
