Hans Zimmer joins as composer for HBO’s Harry Potter series
HBO’s upcoming adaptation of the Harry Potter books will feature an original score by Hans Zimmer and Bleeding Fingers Music, aiming to honor and re-imagine the musical legacy of the saga for television.

Hans Zimmer and his company, Bleeding Fingers Music, have been chosen to compose the score for the highly anticipated HBO Harry Potter series, scheduled to premiere in 2027. The series will adapt seven books by JK Rowling – The Sorcerer’s Stone, Chamber of Secrets, Prisoner of Azkaban, Goblet of Fire, Order of the Phoenix, Half-Blood Prince, And death gifts -Each book is being translated into one season of television. The announcement places a significant focus on the musical direction of the new adaptation, promising both continuity and innovation for fans of the franchise.
As reported DiversityDiscussing their involvement, Zimmer and Bleeding Fingers composers Cara Talve and Anne Roseman said, “The musical legacy of ‘Harry Potter’ is a touch point for composers everywhere and we are grateful to be joining a remarkable team on such a massive project,” adding, “The responsibility is something I, Kara Talve and Anne Roseman do not take lightly. Magic is all around us, often just beyond reach, but in the world of Harry Potter Kind of, you just have to look for it. With this score we hope to bring audiences a little closer to it while also paying respect to what’s come before.”
The new score aims to honor the legacy of Harry Potter, as well as re-imagine its sound for a long-form, prestige television format. The original film adaptation featured works by composers John Williams, Patrick Doyle, Nicholas Hopper, and Alexandre Desplat, whose music was closely associated with the wizarding world. Zimmer’s collective, Bleeding Fingers Music, was founded a decade ago and is expanding its global presence, with plans to open a new London office later this year. Zimmer is also currently Oscar-shortlisted for his work f1And his music will appear in upcoming projects like HBO’s Excitement And Dune: Part Three.
The cast of the new series includes Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger and Alistair Stout as Ron Weasley. These actors are largely newcomers, with McLaughlin having previously appeared in the Sky comedy Grow, Stanton having starred as Matilda in the West End, and Stout having no previous acting credits. Notable supporting roles include John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Papa Essiedu as Severus Snape, and Janet McTeer as Professor McGonagall.
