Pornhub has officially launched Shorties, a new vertical video feed designed to compete with popular short-form platforms like Instagram Reels and TikTok. The feature was previously in beta and marks Pornhub’s effort to adapt to the changing preferences of viewers, especially on mobile devices.

According to a press release, Shorties is now live on the adult website. Pornhub says the feature provides an experience tailored to the way users engage with content today.

How does Pornhub Shorties work?

Shorties allows users to scroll through trending videos in a vertical format similar to Reels or TikTok videos. This new feature is available not only on Pornhub but also on Pornhub Gay. Users can like, follow, favorite or skip videos, and enter full-screen mode that hides interface icons for a more immersive experience. Unlike Reels or TikTok, there are no restrictions on video length.

Most Shorties videos include Pornhub’s “More of Me” integration, which links directly to the performers’ fan sites and social media profiles. This is notable for adult creators, many of whom face bans or shadow bans on major social platforms. By providing a space for creators to promote themselves and connect with fans, Shorties can help address ongoing challenges related to visibility and monetization in the industry.

The timing of Shorties’ release coincides with heightened scrutiny of adult content online, as new age-verification laws are being implemented in many regions. These laws often require users to provide a government ID or facial scan to access content, causing Pornhub to withdraw from some markets where compliance is deemed too restrictive. Despite these legal pressures, the company claims that all content on Shorties complies with its established security and moderation protocols.

In its press release, Pornhub emphasized that Shorties content is subject to security protocols, including moderation processes and facial recognition-based verification for performers. Consent forms from co-actors are also mandatory.

Why did Pornhub add Shorties?

Mobile devices have become the primary way for people to access adult content. Data from Pornhub’s Insights team revealed that 84 percent of global site traffic in 2020 came from mobile devices. This trend is set to accelerate even further, with Statista reporting a peak of 97 percent mobile usage in October 2023. These figures highlight the importance of features like Shorties, which are tailored specifically for a mobile-first audience.

Pornhub’s vice president of brand and community Alex Keksi commented on the launch, “Shorties was created to meet viewers where they are and reflect how people naturally consume content today. “As viewing behaviors evolve, Pornhub is evolving with them. “With the majority of our online traffic coming from mobile, Shorties makes it easier than ever for fans and creators to connect through an intuitive, dynamic experience,” he added.
