Over the past few years, Android phone manufacturers have been racing to introduce bigger and better batteries. If rumors are to be believed, 2025 could be the year we see the biggest upgrade in smartphone battery capacity ever. According to the latest reports, the next generation of Android flagships could have a battery as big as 8,000mAh.

This year, 2024 flagship smartphones are already setting new standards for battery capacity. We recently reviewed the Oppo Find X8 series, which impressed us with its battery performance. We then reviewed the Realme GT 7 Pro, and once again, the battery stood out as one of the key features of this flagship. In fact, these new flagships coming from China have even outperformed segment leaders like the iPhone 16 Pro Max and Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra.

For reference, the Realme GT 7 Pro has a larger 6,500mAh battery, while the iQOO 13 and Oppo Find X8 Pro are equipped with 6,150mAh and 5,910mAh batteries, respectively. In comparison, the S24 Ultra and iPhone 16 Pro Max have smaller batteries at 5,000mAh and 4,685mAh, respectively.

However, although these battery benchmarks are impressive, tipster Digital Chat Station, as reported by NotebookCheck, suggests that Android manufacturers—particularly Realme—may soon raise the bar even higher with bigger batteries. According to reports, Realme is testing different battery configurations for its upcoming flagship, possibly the Realme GT 8 Pro.

According to the report, the company is testing the following battery capacities and charging speeds:

7,000mAh battery with 120W fast charging, full capacity in 42 minutes.
7,500mAh battery with 100W fast charging that can be fully charged in 55 minutes.
The 8,000mAh battery gets fully charged in 70 minutes with 80W fast charging.

In particular, all batteries under test demonstrate a balance between capacity and charging speed. For example, while the 8,000mAh variant offers unmatched capacity, its charging time is relatively slow compared to smaller configurations. However, fully charging such a large battery in 70 minutes is still impressive compared to industry standards.

If Realme succeeds in offering an 8,000mAh battery, it could establish a new segment of ultra-long-lasting smartphones. And this could help the brand gain an even stronger position in its smartphone sales, especially in the premium segment.
