The food we eat every day determines how healthy we are. However, with so much information available, it can be quite confusing to know what is actually healthy for us and what is not. We may think we are eating healthy food, but the reality may be just the opposite. Conversely, we may consider something unhealthy, but it may be beneficial. Some foods are a mix of both: good when consumed in limited quantities and harmful when consumed in excess. To shed light on these, nutritionist Nmami Agarwal has shared four such foods that can be both good and bad for your health. Check them out below:

Here are 4 such foods that have both positive and negative effects on your health:
1. Ghee
Ghee has been an integral part of the Indian kitchen since ancient times. Contrary to popular belief, this golden elixir can actually be quite healthy. Nutritionists say that ghee is rich in essential vitamins and nutrients. However, its benefits depend on the way you eat and consume it. Overheating ghee can lead to the formation of harmful compounds. So, while a spoonful of ghee can make your food tastier, deep-frying it is not the best way to enjoy it.
2. Rice
Another food item you should eat in moderation is rice. It is true that rice provides the necessary energy, but it should not be consumed in excess. Nmami says that it is important to maintain a balance of protein and fibre in your plate when eating rice. This will help prevent a sudden rise in blood sugar levels. Remember, rice is a great companion, but it should never be the centre of your meal.
3. Pickles
The next food item Nmami talks about is pickles. We Indians love eating pickles with our meals. And why not? They are a treasure trove of probiotics and antioxidants. But their pungent taste comes at a price – high sodium content. If you eat them in excess, it leads to higher chances of cardiovascular diseases. Enjoy them occasionally, and watch your portion size.
4. Coconut
Coconut offers some remarkable benefits for our health. It is low in calories and rich in healthy fats and medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs). All these factors make coconut a powerhouse of nutrition. However, you should not ignore the fact that coconut is also high in calories. Nutritionists suggest consuming coconut in limited quantities as part of a balanced diet. The best way to reap its benefits is by drinking coconut water.
