A 24-year-old man in the United States has been charged with attempted murder after trying to kill his 4-month-old baby by dousing him with petrol. NewsweekEdgar James Bridgemon of Texas has confessed to poisoning the child with the intention of killing him. He was arrested on Saturday on charges of attempted murder and was later sent to jail. Police said that apart from the charge of attempted murder, he has also been charged with evading arrest.
After responding to a disturbing emergency call, police learned that Bridgemon had allegedly doused the child with gasoline. While officers were assessing the situation, the 24-year-old attempted to flee on foot. But after a brief chase, police arrested Bridgemon and took him into custody, where he later confessed to the crime.

On the other hand, the 4-month-old baby was immediately rushed to Parish Regional Medical Center, where medical staff began his initial treatment. However, due to the severity of the poisoning, the baby was later transferred to a different hospital in the Dallas-Fort Worth area for more advanced care.
Bridgemon now faces multiple charges, including attempted murder, which is considered a first-degree felony in Texas. If convicted, Bridgemon, 24, could face up to life in prison.
In addition, Bridgemon has also been charged with evading arrest, further complicating his legal situation. He is currently being held in the Lamar County Jail, where his bond is set at $255,000. The case is still being investigated by local authorities.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, a mother was recently arrested for allegedly throwing her newborn baby in a garbage bag and dumping it in a trash can. Everilda Cuex-Aztzalam reportedly told police she did it because she was afraid her boyfriend would break up with her if she didn’t. Court records reviewed by Law&Crime show she was taken into custody Thursday and charged with the misdemeanor of abandoning a child without the intent to return.
Medics from the Houston Fire Department transported the baby to Texas Children’s Hospital, where officials said the child was stable and in good condition. After receiving treatment, the child was released into the custody of Child Protective Services.
