Epilepsy affects millions of Indians, causing sudden seizures due to abnormal brain activity. While drugs help many patients manage the condition, about 30% of doctors, do not respond to treatment.

In such cases, surgery can be an alternative, but due to lack of experts and awareness, very low epilepsy surgery is performed in India.

Doctors at Amrita Hospital, Faridabad recently demonstrated a rare and advanced brain surgery, helping 21 -year -old Tushar Singh, a salon professional, who was suffering from a weekly tour since childhood.

For years, doctors did not get an accurate cause of Tushar’s epilepsy. Standard brain scans such as MRI and PET (Positron Emission Tomography) showed no abnormalities, making surgery impossible.

Then, a new technology called stereo-electro-esafelography (SEEG) was used.

This advanced method involves keeping deep electrodes inside the brain through small holes in the scalp. These electrodes monitor brain activity in real time, helping doctors to trigger seizures.

CEEG is available only in some special epilepsy centers in India, including AIIMS Delhi, Amrita Hospital Kochi and Amrita Hospital Faridabad. This process is expensive, the cost of each electrode is between Rs 50,000 and Rs 80,000, and only for carefully selected patients.

Once the doctors identified the affected brain area, they performed minimum invasive surgery to remove it.

Seven months later, Tushar did not confiscate a single one, leading to a new beginning in life.

A neurologist at Amrita Hospital, Dr. Amit Kumar Aggarwal said, “This advanced brain mapping technique allowed us to indicate the problem when regular scans failed.”

Neurosurgeon Dr. working on Tushar. Satyakam Barua said, “For patients whose epilepsy does not improve with medication, each seizure disrupts their education, work and daily life. Using modern technology, we are giving hopes to many of them for a seized future.”

This case highlights that advanced technology such as Seeg can help epilepsy patients who have no other treatment option, making brain surgery more effective for safe and needy people.
