Farhan Akhtar starrer 120 Bahadur finally released in theaters today. The film, directed by Rajneesh Razi Ghai, recorded a disappointing opening at the box office. According to estimates, it earned only Rs. Earning 1.75 crores on the first day. The film also had a paid preview on 18 November, four days before its release, where it collected approximately Rs. Only 10 lakhs. So, including previews, the opening day figure is Rs. 1.85 crore nett.
The military drama based on the Battle of Rezang La was expected to take a better start than its rival release, Masti 4, but the film lagged a bit. This is probably due to the franchise factor of Masti 4, although it doesn’t make much of a difference.
As of now, word-of-mouth about 120 Bahadur is mixed, which means there are chances that the film could soar over the weekend and perform at a healthy cumulative box office by the end of its theatrical run. The film should now aim for a good bounce on Saturday and Sunday and aim to earn at least Rs.1 crore. 8 crore to 10 crore in the first weekend. Although it is quite unlikely, there is still some hope regarding the subject of the film.
Interestingly, the box office results of previous military dramas have not been so good. This style has always suffered when it comes to business. The works that do combine a sense of patriotism with mass appeal, strong star power or real-life relevance. The two standout hits in the genre are Border and Uri, the former had comprehensive treatment and tremendous star value, while the latter was based on more current events like the 2016 surgical strike, which added a curiosity factor.
