One person was killed and seven others were injured in a shooting outside a nightclub in Louisville, Kentucky on Saturday (local time), CNN quoted police as saying.
According to a statement from the Louisville Metro Police Department, first responders found two people with gunshot wounds when they arrived at the scene outside the H20 Lounge at 12:47 a.m. (local time). One of the victims was later pronounced dead.
The second man was taken to a hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries, police said. Later, medical staff said six other victims, all adults, arrived at area hospitals for treatment after the shooting.
All six people were shot, according to Police Department Public Information Officer Aaron Ellis. “These injuries are not believed to be life-threatening,” police said.
Police did not release any information about the suspect and it was not clear how many people opened fire or what led to the shooting.
“The relationship of the victims, if any, is not known at this time,” police said, adding that the shooting remains under investigation.
In a separate incident, three people were killed and ten others were injured in a shooting at a grocery store in Fordyce, Arkansas on Friday (local time), officials said at a press conference, reports CNN.
According to CNN, Arkansas State Police said the incident happened at the Mad Butcher grocery store around 11:30 a.m. local time.
Public Safety Secretary and Arkansas State Police Director Mike Hager said law enforcement responded quickly to the scene and encountered a “lone suspect” and exchanged gunfire. Both officers and the suspect suffered injuries, but none are believed to be life-threatening.
There have been a number of mass shootings in the US over the past few weeks, with at least 21 other mass shootings recorded by the Gun Violence Archive since last Friday. The Gun Violence Archive considers a mass shooting to be an incident in which four or more people are shot, excluding the shooter, CNN reports.
